Every Spanish word for a thing is either a "boy word" or a "girl word." Here's the easy way to guess which one!

In Spanish, every noun uses el or la — kind of like saying "the." You don't need to know why — you just need to learn the pattern!

The Easy Trick

el
Words ending in -o usually use el
el gato (the cat)
el libro (the book)
el perro (the dog)
la
Words ending in -a usually use la
la casa (the house)
la mesa (the table)
la manzana (the apple)

A Few Sneaky Words

🕵️ These break the pattern — just remember them as they are!
la la mano (the hand) — ends in -o, but it's "la"!
el el día (the day) — ends in -a, but it's "el"!
